TS is marked by both motor and vocal tics. Motor tics can be simple, such as eye blinking or shoulder shrugging, or complex, involving multiple muscle groups and more coordinated movements like jumping or twisting. Vocal tics also vary from simple sounds like grunts or throat clearing to complex vocalizations, including words or phrases. These tics can change in frequency, type, and severity over time. Stress, excitement, or anxiety can exacerbate tics, while focused activities like playing a musical instrument might reduce them temporarily.
